Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Welcome to Lazy Oaks Farm, located at 2630 Oaks Rd. in beautiful Paducah, Kentucky. We’re Louis and Pam Hayden, the owners of Lazy Oaks Farm. We invite you to step into our world and let us tell you the yearnings of our hearts and dreams.
If we could sit across the porch from God, we’d thank Him for the hopes and dreams of this sweet life. First we praise the Lord for allowing us to see our dreams come alive. For years we wanted to build a barn and offer a safe, comfortable place for people to board their horses. We planned and dreamed. We drew pictures and wrote down plans. It seemed at times that our dream was just that, a dream. As most of you know, sometimes dreams have to be put on hold when we are young and struggling to make ends meet and while we are raising our children. In those times we looked at each other, smiled and said, “Someday...” and hung on to our Big Dream. Psalm 37:4 reminds us… “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Over the years, we never gave up on our dream and we never quit asking the Lord, “When?”
Our love for horses began when we were just children…
Louis was 12 years old when he purchased his first horse with dollars earned picking tomatoes during the summer and hauling hay in the fall. Every day he scanned the newspaper for an add that would lead him to that special horse. Then one day, there she was, a three year old Sorrel quarter/saddle horse mix needing a good home, $150. With his heart beating rapidly, Louis counted out his life savings. Louis knew she was going to be his. He had no saddle, no bridle, nothing but a rope around her neck, but Louis’ life long journey with horses began. His gentle spirit and soft voice proved to be the key for training. To this day Louis continues to train his equine friends with as much love and gentleness as he gave his first love, Pixie.
As for Pam, she stayed weekends with her Uncle Jackie and Aunt Sallie so she could attend the horse shows with them. Just being around horses was exciting to Pam. Although she believed there was no way she could ever have a horse of her own, nothing could ever keep her from dreaming. As Pam helped her uncle and watched him with the horses, she pretended they were hers. His horse was probably the only one who really knew Pam’s secret dreams and desires. When she met Louis, she was amazed to realize how intertwined their dreams of horses were. One of their first dates was spent riding Pixie double, all afternoon. After they were married in September of 1973, Louis surprised Pam with her first horse, Bobbie! He traded Pixie’s colt and a pair of cowboy boots for her. |
